What is Superwood: American company Inventwood has launched a wood called Superwood which is 10 times stronger than steel and 6 times lighter in terms of strength-to-weight ratio. Superwood is being produced by Inventwood under the leadership of renowned materials scientist Liangbing Hu.
Liangbing Hu had been working on Strong Girl for more than a decade. Working at the Materials Innovation Center at the University of Maryland, he came up with a way to redesign wood, even making it transparent. A part of the lignin was removed. This component gives wood its color and part of its strength.
Liangbing Hu worked on strengthening wood through cellulose. Cellulose is the main component of plant fiber. It is one of the most common biopolymers on earth. Hu first got success in 2017. He strengthened ordinary wood by chemically treating it to increase the natural cellulose and improve its manufacturing characteristics.
What is Superwood?
Superwood is a new type of girl which has been prepared by chemical treatment. For this, first the wood is boiled in a solution of water and special chemicals. After this it is passed through a hot press to press it at the cellular level. Due to this the girl’s hair becomes dense. According to a study published in Nature, wood produced through this process displayed a higher strength-to-weight ratio than most metal structures and their alloys.

Hu has refined this process. He has filed over 140 patents. After this Superwood became commercially available. Alex Lau, CEO of Inventwood, said, “From a chemical and practical point of view, this is wood. Houses can be built from it. Houses made from it will be about four times lighter. The weight of the foundation will be less. These houses will survive even in earthquakes.”
