What is Election Commission’s SIR, what is the big change happening in 12 states from 12 midnight

The Election Commission announced in a press conference that after Bihar, the work of Voter List Update i.e. SIR will start in 12 states/UTs. The voter list of these states will be frozen from 12 midnight tonight.

Chief Election Commissioner of India Gyanesh Kumar has made a big announcement in a press conference on Monday afternoon. The Commissioner said that now after Bihar, SIR will be implemented in 12 states of the country from tomorrow i.e. from October 28. He said that the voter lists of these states and UTs will be frozen from tonight itself.

What is the SIR of the Election Commission?

SIR means Special Intensive Revision…this is a process of the Election Commission under which the voter list is updated. To put it clearly, there will be updation of the voter list. Names of new voters will be added and mistakes will be corrected. Also, names of people who have died or have started living elsewhere will be deleted. That means ineligible voters will be excluded from the voter list. Also, no eligible person should be left out of the vote list.

Election Commissioner said to do this work in 2 days

Chief Election Commissioner said that Sir’s Phase-2 training will start from Tuesday morning itself. Gyanesh Kumar said that all the Election Officers (CEOs) and District Election Officers (DEOs) of these 12 states have been instructed to meet all the political parties of the state within two days and give information about the SIR process. Also, the Commissioner has clearly said that the elderly, sick, disabled, poor and weaker sections should not be harassed at all in this work.

In the press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said- I salute the 7.5 crore voters of Bihar who cooperated with the Election Commission in making this process successful. I also wish all the best for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. Similarly, I also appeal to the people of these 12 states to cooperate with the Election Commission in this work.
