The Central Government has recently clarified some important things regarding the allowance related to children’s education i.e. Children’s Education Allowance (CEA). This allowance is given to government employees so that they can afford the education of their children.
What is CEA?
CEA is a kind of financial assistance, which the government gives to its employees every month. It can be used for expenses like school fees, books, uniform and hostel expenses.
For how many children is the benefit available?
This facility is available for maximum two children of the family. If twins or more than one child are born for the second time, then in that case also this benefit can be availed.
How do you get money?
CEA money is received as reimbursement once a year. For this, a certificate has to be given from the school, in which it is written that the child was studying in that school that year.
How much allowance do you get?
According to the new rules of 2024, ₹ 2,812.5 per month for each child, ₹ 8,437.5 per month for hostel accommodation. This amount is fixed, regardless of how much you actually spend.
Which children are eligible for this?
- Child must be under 21 years of age
- The limit for disabled children is 22 years
- Students from nursery to 12th
- Up to first 2 years of Diploma/Certificate course
- Students studying through distance or correspondence are also included
Which schools are approved?
The child should be studying in a school/college which is recognized by the government, such as CBSE, ICSE, State Board or AICTE affiliated institutions.
What new things did the government clarify?
The government has said that if a child has to repeat a class due to the New Education Policy (NEP 2020), then he can get the benefit of CEA for that year also (as one-time relief).
What will happen in case of suspension or court case?
Even if an employee is suspended or rejoins the job after a court order, CEA can be obtained with certain conditions. This will depend on how that period has been considered. Overall, CEA is a big help for government employees, which helps in reducing the cost of children’s education and with the new rules it has become even easier and clearer.
