What curse did Yamraj get: There are many stories about many important characters of the Mahabharata period. Vidur is included in the important characters of Mahabharata period. Whenever the story of Mahabharata is narrated, there is definitely mention of Mahatma Vidur in it, because without him the story of Mahabharata is not complete. Vidur was very knowledgeable. He was the son of a maid and was also the general secretary of King Dhritarashtra. He had great knowledge of all subjects including politics.
Vidur’s policies are famous even today. Vidur was none other than Yamraj. Yamraj himself came to earth in the form of Vidur and lived his life. During the Mahabharata period, Yamraj had to be born on earth due to a curse. Vidur is nothing else but the name of Yamraj. Due to the curse of a sage, Yamraj was born on earth as the son of a slave.

According to the story, there used to be an ascetic sage named Mandavya. Once the king’s messengers caught some thieves at his ashram. Because of which the sage also got punished for this. After this he went straight to Yamraj. He asked Yamraj for which crime of mine I have been punished. Yamraj told the sage that when he was a child, he had pricked a needle in the tail of an insect. Due to which he got punished.
Sage Mandavya cursed Yamraj
On this, Sage Mandavya said that he was given such a huge punishment because of his childhood crime. After this he cursed Yamraj that he would have to be born on earth as the son of a slave. Later, due to the curse of the sage, Yamraj was born as Mahatma Vidur. According to the story narrated in Mahabharata, after the death of Vichitravirya, Satyavati called Vedavyas, her son and sage Parashar.
Satyavati told Ved Vyas that to save my dynasty from destruction, you should produce children from Vichitravirya’s wife Ambika and Ambalika. Vedvyas obeyed his mother’s orders, but when Queen Ambika reached Vedvyas, she got scared after seeing his appearance and closed her eyes, due to which Dhritarashtra was born blind. After this, when Ambalika reached Vedvyas, she turned pale due to fear.
Vidur born from a maid
Ved Vyas told Satyavati that Ambalika would give birth to a son whose health would not be good. Then Satyavati asked Ambalika to go to Vedvyas again, but the queen did not go herself and sent her maid in her place. This maid gave birth to Vidur.
