West Indies have announced their ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming multi-format tour of India, with John Campbell returning to the 50-over side and young opener Kamil Pooran receiving his maiden T20I call-up.
The West Indies are scheduled to play three ODIs and five T20Is against India from September 27 to October 17, with matches spread across eight cities. Shai Hope will lead both squads as the Caribbean side prepares to face the world’s top-ranked ODI and T20I team.
Campbell returns to the ODI setup after missing the final two matches of the recent series against New Zealand because of a hamstring injury. Young batter Jewel Andrew has also been added to the ODI squad, replacing Ackeem Auguste, who continues his recovery after undergoing surgery in August.
Shimron Hetmyer has not been selected for the ODI leg. However, the experienced left-hander will join the squad for the five-match T20I series after being granted additional recovery time following the Caribbean Premier League.
The opening two ODIs against India will also bring the current automatic qualification cycle for the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup to a close. West Indies will need to enter the qualification tournament next year after missing out on a direct qualification spot.
Head coach Daren Sammy said the India series will provide valuable preparation and an opportunity to assess the squad ahead of the World Cup qualification campaign.
In the T20I squad, the major talking point is Kamil Pooran’s maiden international call-up. The right-handed opener has impressed with 273 runs from eight innings at a strike rate of 159.64 and an average of 39 during the recent period.
Quentin Sampson, who was part of West Indies’ T20 World Cup squad earlier this year in India, also returns, while experienced all-rounder Jason Holder has been rested.
Sammy said the T20I team will look to build on the momentum from the series victory over Sri Lanka while developing a settled core for the next T20 World Cup.
The West Indies squad is scheduled to leave the Caribbean on September 21 and arrive in Thiruvananthapuram on September 23.
