West Indies beat Pakistan in rain-hit second ODI for series-levelling win

New Delhi: West Indies beat Pakistan by five wickets in rain-hit second ODI match at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad to level the series. In a contest that was shortened by rain, Pakistan scored 171/7 in 37 overs. With DLS in place, the revised target for West Indies became 181 in 35 overs, which they managed to complete with more than an over to spare.

Pakistan openers Saim Ayub and Shafique added 37 runs for the first wicket before Jayden Seales dismissed Ayub for 23 runs. Veteran batter Babar Azam put up a shoddy show after getting out for a duck as his poor form continued. Seales gave the Windies another wicket by cleaning up Azam in the 9th over of the innings.

Pakistan batters fail

The visitors never looked in complete control of the game as they kept on losing wickets on regular intervals. Hussain Talat and Hasan Nawaz were the only batters in the line up to show some courage with scores of 31 and 36 respectively. With help of both the batters, Men in Green reached 171 runs in the stipulated overs as rain played spoilsport. Skipper Mohammed Rizwan scored just 16 runs while Salman Agha could muster just 9.

Seales was the highest wicket-taker with three scalps while other bowlers also contributed with one wicket apiece. In response, crucial knocks from Sherfane Rutherford and Roston Chase helped the hosts bag a win and level the series. Rutherford scored 45 runs while Chase remained unbeaten on 49. Skipper Shai Hope also contributed useful 32 runs.
