West Delhi Lions Eliminated from DPL 2026 Title Race After Loss to Central Delhi Kings

August 23: The West Delhi Lions faced a setback in the Delhi   (DPL) 2026, losing to the Central Delhi Kings by 21 runs in the 37th match on Saturday.

This defeat has confirmed the top four teams for the season.

In the points table, the Central Delhi Kings lead with 9 wins out of 10 matches. Meanwhile, the Old Delhi team holds the second position with 5 victories from 9 games. The Central Delhi Superstars are third, also with 5 wins from 9 matches, while the Outer Delhi Warriors round out the top four with 5 wins. The remaining four teams have been eliminated from the title race.

At Arun Jaitley Stadium, the Central Delhi Kings won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 232 runs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Samarth Singh and Siddharth June put together a solid opening partnership, scoring 59 runs in just 24 balls. Siddharth contributed 33 runs off 17 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 2 fours, before the team lost Samarth (37 runs off 14 balls) at a score of 76.

Yugal Saini then partnered with Jonty Sidhu and Keshav Dubas, adding 27 and 37 runs respectively, helping the team reach 140. Yugal scored 26 runs off 27 balls before returning to the pavilion. Manish Grewal took charge, partnering with Jasveer Seharawat to add 48 runs for the seventh wicket in just 15 balls, pushing the team past the double-century mark.

Grewal finished with 42 runs off 16 balls, including 4 sixes and 3 fours, while Keshav Dubas added 26 runs. From the opposition, Manan Bhardwaj took 3 wickets, while Shubham Dubey and Mayank Gusain claimed 2 wickets each.

In response, the West Delhi Lions managed only 211 runs, losing 8 wickets in their 20 overs. Krish Yadav and Hiten Dalal opened the innings with a partnership of 31 runs in 16 balls. Hiten scored 22 runs off 12 balls before being dismissed. Krish then partnered with captain Nitish Rana, adding 40 runs in just 13 balls to strengthen the innings.

Nitish scored 31 runs off 10 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 1 four. The Lions lost Aryavir Sehwag (2) at a score of 80. Krish and Ankit Kumar then added 59 runs for the fourth wicket in 27 balls, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory.

Ankit Kumar scored 61 runs off 30 balls, featuring 5 sixes and 4 fours, while Krish contributed 46 runs with 8 boundaries. For the Kings, Manish Grewal, Keshav Dubas, and Tejas Baroka each took 2 wickets, with Gavnish Khurana claiming 1 wicket.
