West Bengal polls: RG Kar victim’s mother may contest on BJP ticket | What she said

Kolkata: Nearly two years after the rape and murder of RG Kar Medical College doctor, her mother has expressed a desire to contest on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The state is going to two-phase polls on April 23 and April 29. Results are to be announced on May 4.

‘Urgent need for women’s safety’

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, she said, “Given the rampant violence against women in the state and the urgent need for women’s safety, I have personally expressed my desire to become a BJP candidate. I have already held discussions with the party leadership. The Trinamool Congress must be uprooted completely.”

Responding to the development, CPI(M) state secretary Md Salim said, “It is up to the family to decide what they wish to do. Neither the BJP nor the TMC has any intention to find out the real truth about the heinous crime against the woman medic intern at her own workplace run by the state government.”
