West Bengal Election 2026 Congress Candidates: Congress has released the first list of 284 candidates for West Bengal Election 2026. The party has taken a big bet by fielding a candidate against Mamata Banerjee on Bhawanipur seat and has decided to contest the elections alone in the state.
Congress Candidates List: The politics of West Bengal has once again become heated. Before the Assembly elections 2026, the Indian National Congress has revealed its cards and has tried to give a big political message in the very first list. The party has simultaneously declared the names of candidates for 284 seats out of 294, which clearly shows that this time Congress is in no mood to leave any stone unturned.
Big face against Mamta Banerjee
The most talked about thing is that Congress has fielded Pradeep Prasad in Mamata Banerjee’s stronghold Bhawanipur. This seat is considered a strong seat of Mamata Banerjee, hence fielding a candidate here is being seen as a direct challenge to Congress.

Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary himself took command
Veteran Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary is also contesting the elections this time. He will contest from Baharampur seat. He is considered an experienced face within the party, and with his entry, Congress has clearly indicated that it is ready to fight the battle on the ground this time.

Bet on these big names too
Congress has also announced its candidates on many other seats. These include Madhav Rai from Darjeeling, Abdul Hannan from Sujapur, Sushmita Biswas from Dumdum, Gautam Bhattacharya from Diamond Harbour, Souvik Mukherjee from Asansol South and Prasenjit Puitandi from Asansol North. Whereas former MP Mausam Noor has been fielded from Maltipur seat.
Decision to contest elections alone
This time Congress has decided to contest alone on all 294 seats in West Bengal. This strategy is both risky and also an opportunity for the party. According to political experts, if Congress performs strongly even on some seats, it could be the beginning of a big comeback for it.
Big meeting held in Delhi
Before the selection of candidates, an important meeting of the Central Election Committee of the party was held. Many big leaders including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi attended this meeting. Apart from this, KC Venugopal, Ambika Soni, Salman Khurshid and other leaders also discussed the names of the candidates.
Will Congress be able to make a comeback?
The biggest question is whether Congress will be able to regain its lost ground in Bengal with this strategy? The path will not be easy for Congress between Mamata Banerjee’s strong hold and regional politics. But by fielding big faces, the party has made it clear that this time it has not just come for participation but for competition.
