Bengaluru: A heartfelt Reddit post by a frustrated Bengaluru resident has gone viral, sparking debate over the city’s crumbling infrastructure, worsening traffic, and political apathy.
The user, writing under the handle @Glittering-Pen-9502, titled the post “Bengaluru is dying & we’re watching it die”. It resonated widely with locals who’ve watched India’s tech capital slide into chaos.
“As a born & brought up Bengaluru huduga, I have watched the city transform from being a paradise to decaying ruins,” the post began.
He blamed reckless traffic, pathetic roads, and unfinished infrastructure projects for the city’s mess, saying: “People care very less about traffic rules. Roads are pathetic and traffic is insane. Nobody seems to have a solution… Our thriving netas want to build tunnels and raise taxes – all while unfinished projects languish.”
The post struck a nerve. Thousands of users weighed in with similar concerns. One person wrote, “I moved away two years ago and every time I visit, I’m shocked by how much worse traffic has gotten.” Another said, “We complain, we vote, and yet nothing changes. It feels like we’re screaming into a void.”
Some blamed mismanagement:
“Bengaluru has potential, but it’s being buried under mismanagement,” a user commented.
Others pointed out the disconnect between development and basic services:
“Tech parks flourish while surrounding roads crumble – what kind of planning is this?”
The emotional tone of the original post and the responses point to a deeper civic despair – where love for the city clashes with a helpless sense of watching it fall apart.
One user summed it up: “Even the so-called smart city initiatives are nothing more than PR stunts.”
