A love story in Ghaziabad made headlines again, when 29 -year -old Akbar Khan was arrested for the second time on Friday for the alleged kidnapping of his 25 -year -old wife Sonika Chauhan.
But the twist in the story came when Sonika clearly stated that she had gone with Akbar on her own will and both of them married under the Special Marriage Act.
Two arrests two months ago
This is not the first time Akbar and Sonika’s love story has caused tension between the police and the family. Two months ago, on 25 May, Sonika’s father Laxman Singh Chauhan accused Akbar of kidnapping her daughter. At that time too, Sonika had clarified that she had left the house on her wish and went with Akbar. Nevertheless, the police raided Akbar’s house and handed over Sonika to her parents and arrested Akbar. Not only this, two sisters of Akbar, sister -in -law and a neighbor were also detained.
This time, on July 30, Laxman again filed a complaint at the Indirapuram police station, alleging that Akbar and her family were accused of kidnapping and threatening Sonika. On Friday, the police took Akbar into custody and sent Sonika to her parents.
Did Sonika bid?
Sonika has raised her voice in this case. In an alleged video, which came out on July 30, Sonika claimed that she had left home at 2 pm and went to Akbar. He said, ‘My parents and some other people for the last two months, including Meena Bhandari, Harish Karkoti, Kapil Tyagi, my maternal uncle Vikram Rawat and uncle Jagdish Singh Chauhan, were torturing me physically and mentally. He wanted me to make a statement against Akbar in court and implicate it under the POCSO Act. But I will tell the truth. ‘
Sonika also said that she and Akbar had secretly married in August 2022 under the Special Marriage Act, 1954 at an SDM office in Delhi. A video was also revealed in May, in which Sonika expressed his desire to live with Akbar.
What is the police side?
Ghaziabad Police Commissioner J.K. Ravinder Gaur said that Akbar has been arrested in a fresh kidnapping case. He said, “We have taken a written assurance from Sonika’s parents and have been sent to her.” When she was asked that Sonika had spoken about mental harassment by her family, still why she was sent to her, Gaur said, ‘We are giving priority to her safety. His statements will be recorded in front of the magistrate on Saturday. If she wants to live in a one stop center, we will investigate it.
Family claim
Laxman in his latest complaint alleged that Akbar and his associates kidnapped Sonika at midnight. He also claimed that Akbar’s family had been threatening his family for the last few days. In May, after a similar complaint, Akbar’s shop was attacked and vandalized by a group of about 60 people. Akbar and Sonika claim that they have been married for three years, but their identity has been limited to their religion only.
