Veteran Bollywood actor Mushtaq Khan passed away on September 24 at the age of 56, according to reports. He was reportedly admitted to Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai on Thursday following a significant decline in his health and breathed his last later in the evening.
The exact cause of his death was not immediately known. Reports said the actor had been suffering from cancer, while an official statement from his family was awaited.
Comedian Sunil Pal paid tribute to Khan by sharing his photograph on Instagram Stories with the message, “RIP Mushtaq Khan sahab”.
Khan made his film debut in 1980 with the drama ‘Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyoon Aata Hai’, appearing in a small role. He subsequently featured in several films during the 1980s, including ‘Thodisi Bewafaii’, ‘Kaalia’ and ‘Kabzaa’.
He gained wider recognition through his work in Hindi cinema during the 1990s and 2000s, appearing in films including ‘Aashiqui’, ‘Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin’, ‘Sadak’, ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’, ‘Chaahat’, ‘Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha’, ‘Hera Pheri’, ‘Jodi No. 1’ and ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’.
His later film credits included ‘Welcome’, ‘My Friend Ganesha’, ‘Rowdy Rathore’, ‘Khiladi 786’, ‘Welcome Back’, ‘Stree’, ‘Bharat’, ‘Badhaai Do’, ‘Gadar 2’, ‘Stree 2’, ‘Baby John’ and ‘Luv Ki Arrange Marriage’.
Khan was particularly remembered for playing Gul Khan in ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’, starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. He also appeared in the film’s second instalment, ‘Gadar 2’, released nearly two decades after the original.
On television, Khan played Baldev Tripathi in ‘Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi’ and was also associated with the courtroom drama series ‘Adaalat’.
