Most parts of India are currently reeling under intense heatwaves. In many states, temperatures have surpassed 45 degrees Celsius.
Heatwaves are wreaking havoc in several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Bihar.
Amid the ongoing heatwave in several states across North and South India, a major update regarding the monsoon has emerged.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rain, lightning, and strong winds up to 70 km/h for the next four to five days due to pre-monsoon activity in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, and Northeast India. Hailstorms and dust storms are also possible in some parts of India.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Kerala and Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, North-East and adjoining East India during next 4-5 days.
According to IMD, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are likely to persist over central and northwest India for the next 7 days and over eastern and coastal peninsular India for the next 3-5 days. According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at some places over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, North-East and South-East India for the next 4-5 days.
Northeast India Weather Update
Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) is likely over Assam and Meghalaya on May 25, and over Nagaland, Manipur, and Mizoram on May 24. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh during May 25 and 26.
South India Weather Update
Light to moderate rain and thunderstorms are likely over Kerala, Mahe, and Lakshadweep from May 25 to 28. Winds reaching 40-50 kmph are also possible during this time.
Light to moderate rain with strong winds is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Yanam from May 25 to 27.
Eastern India Weather Update
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely over Gangetic West Bengal during May 27-29, over Bihar during May 26-28, and over Jharkhand and Odisha on May 25.
North-Western India Weather Update
Light to moderate rain is expected in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh during May 28-30, and in isolated pockets in Uttarakhand on May 25, 29, and 30. Thunderstorms with wind speeds of up to 40-50 km/h are possible during this period.
Central India Weather Update
Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds is likely at isolated places over Vidarbha during May 26-28.
Srinagar Weather
Srinagar will see partly cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers on May 25.
Delhi-NCR Weather Update
Delhi is expected to see no relief from the heat for three more days. The IMD has issued a yellow heatwave alert until May 27. Maximum temperatures are expected to remain unchanged in many parts of northwest India until May 28. Maximum temperatures in Punjab are expected to gradually increase by 2-3 degrees Celsius until May 26. Currently, no significant change in maximum temperatures is expected.
-There is a heatwave alert in Eastern and Western Uttar Pradesh from May 25 to 29.
-The weather in Rajasthan will remain dry for the next four days. On May 26-27, temperatures in western Rajasthan could reach 47 degrees Celsius.
-Madhya Pradesh is set to experience intense heat for the next three days. Red, orange, and yellow alerts have been issued for several districts until May 28.
-The intense heatwave in Maharashtra is adding to the hardships of residents. Besides Amravati, districts like Wardha, Chandrapur, and Akola have also seen a rise in temperatures.
