Weather today: Delhi-NCR wakes up to light rain, more showers expected

New Delhi: Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to light rain and breezy weather on Monday, sending the temperature dipping. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted generally cloudy sky with the possibility of light rain accompanied by thunderstorms, for the city from forenoon to afternoon.

The national capital and its adjoining areas have been experiencing cloudy weather and light drizzle for the last few days. However, the city witnessed clear weather on Sunday. The maximum temperature on Sunday was recorded at 29.5 degrees Celsius, two notches below the seasonal average. The minimum temperature settled at 15.6 degrees Celsius, 1.1 notches below the seasonal average, it stated.

According to the IMD, the maximum and minimum temperatures over Delhi on Monday are likely to be in the range of 30 to 32 degrees Celsius and 15 to 17 degrees Celsius, respectively.

The weather office has issued a yellow alert for the city. “Very light rain/drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at most places, with moderate rain at isolated locations over the next two hours,” the IMD said.

Meanwhile, the air quality was recorded in the ‘moderate’ category today morning, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 139, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.
