The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across several parts of India on Monday, August 31. Odisha and Chhattisgarh may see isolated extremely heavy rainfall, while very heavy rain is likely in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh.
Heavy rain is also expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and northeastern India.
Delhi-NCR Weather
Delhi-NCR is likely to remain warm and relatively dry on August 31, with partly cloudy skies. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 35-37°C, while southwesterly winds may reach 25 kmph.
Rainfall is expected to return to the region from September 1, when very light to light rain along with thunderstorms and lightning is likely during the afternoon and evening.
UP Weather: Heavy rain likely in several districts
The monsoon is expected to remain active across Uttar Pradesh. Eastern Uttar Pradesh could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on August 31, while rainfall activity is likely to continue across the state over the next few days.
The IMD has forecast widespread rain in eastern Uttar Pradesh from September 1 to 5, with isolated heavy rainfall also possible. Western Uttar Pradesh may see thunderstorms, lightning and rain during this period.
Odisha, Chhattisgarh Weather: Extremely heavy rain warning
Odisha and Chhattisgarh are among the areas expected to receive some of the most intense rainfall on August 31. The IMD has forecast isolated extremely heavy rainfall over both states.
Jharkhand and Bihar are also likely to receive widespread rainfall, with very heavy spells possible in some areas.
Uttarakhand Weather: Very heavy rain alert
Uttarakhand is likely to receive very heavy rainfall on August 31, with the intense weather conditions expected to continue into September 1.
Heavy rain in mountainous areas can increase the risk of landslides, flash floods and rising water levels in rivers and streams. People travelling through vulnerable areas should follow local weather and road advisories.
Northeast India Weather: Heavy rain likely
Rainfall activity is expected to remain strong across northeastern India. Arunachal Pradesh may receive very heavy rainfall, while Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are also likely to see fairly widespread to widespread rain.
Heavy rainfall is expected at several places, with intense spells possible in parts of the region.
Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh Weather
Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience rainfall during different periods. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may accompany rain in some areas.
The IMD has also warned of localised flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable hilly areas.
Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal Weather
Bihar is expected to receive widespread rainfall from August 31 to September 2. Jharkhand and Odisha are also likely to see widespread rainfall through September 1.
Gangetic West Bengal and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim may continue to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall through September 5.
Maharashtra Weather: Rain likely in some areas
Monsoon activity has reduced in Maharashtra, although cloudy conditions and thunderstorms with lightning may occur in some areas. Parts of Marathwada could receive rain accompanied by gusty winds.
South India Weather Forecast
Rainfall is also expected to remain active across parts of southern India. Coastal Karnataka is likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall from August 31 to September 5.
Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep are expected to see widespread rainfall through September 3, with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds possible in some areas.
Flash flood risk in 4 states
The IMD has flagged a low to moderate flash-flood risk over some watersheds and neighbourhoods in parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Uttarakhand until 11:30 am on August 31.
People in areas receiving heavy rainfall should follow weather warnings and advisories issued by local authorities.
Weather Forecast: Rain to continue through September 5
The monsoon is expected to remain active across northern, eastern, central, northeastern and southern India during the coming days.
West Uttar Pradesh may receive heavy rain between August 31 and September 5, while East Uttar Pradesh is expected to see more widespread rainfall from September 1 to 5. Central India is also likely to remain wet, with Chhattisgarh and parts of Madhya Pradesh expected to receive widespread rainfall.
