Disha Vakani was an inseparable part of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah for nine years. Her character, Daya Gada, entertained the audience with her innocence and sense of humour. In 2017, she left the show with the promise to return after welcoming her first child. Nine years later, the audience awaits her comeback. Not just avid Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah fans but also the actors who have been working since day one are missing her. During an exclusive conversation with Telly Talk India, Sonalika Joshi, famous as Madhavi Bhabhi, said she misses Disha on set.
Sonalika Joshi on Disha Vakani’s absence
On the occasion of ’s 18th anniversary, Sonalika spoke to Telly Talk India and said, “Koi shuru se kaam karte aa raha hai ya character nibhate aa raha hai aur itna hit hua hai voh character aur jitne logon ne Daya bhabhi ke character ko chahte hai, agar voh character na ho toh miss karte hai.”
She further added that Daya’s character was not typical. Her extraordinary humour and caricaturish approach made it unique and fresh. Sonalika shared that she misses the style of comedy Disha brought to the show and set.
Disha Vakani to return to TMKOC?
Asit Kumarr Modi spoke about Disha’s much-awaited return to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. In an interview with Screen, the producer said the hunt for a new Daya Bhabhi was in full swing, and soon, the show would see the character back in the Gada household. “People have been eagerly waiting for Daya Bhabhi, and I will finalise her soon. People say that without Dayaben, they don’t enjoy the show as much, and I agree. We, as a team, are trying to fill ’s absence as much as we can. But she will return soon,” he said.
Revealing whether Disha would return as Daya Bhabhi, he added, “We can only pray that Disha Vakani returns as the character. She is like my sister, and she has some family duties to fulfil, which is why it might be difficult for her to return. We miss her even today. She was very sincere and caring towards her co-stars and the team. We hope to find someone just like that.”

Disha married a Mumbai-based chartered accountant, Mayur Padia, in 2015. They welcomed their daughter Stuti in 2017. Disha gave birth to a baby boy in May 2022.
