The ongoing game between Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings in Jaipur witnessed a bizarre incident involving Karun Nair.
In a format where a single run can make a huge difference, players try their best to save every run possible.
They fight for every run on the field, and unsurprisingly, honesty from a player – especially one on the fielding side – is quite rare.
It is quite uncommon to see a fielder himself signaling a six, but Karun Nair turned out to be an exception. The Delhi Capitals star decided to raise both of his hands, signaling a six when he went for a catch near the boundary rope. However, things took a bizarre turn when the umpire checked the replays and decided that it was not a six.
The incident took place on the final ball of the 15th over when Mohit Sharma was bowling to Shashank Singh. It was a back-of-length delivery from Mohit, and Shashank pulled the ball down the ground towards long-on where Karun Nair was stationed.
The ball was well over his head, but the Delhi Capitals batsman made a timely jump and caught the ball with both hands. However, the momentum was taking him over the ropes, and Karun Nair smartly flicked the ball back into play. He then immediately raised his hands, signaling a six.
However, when the third umpire checked the replays, he did not find any evidence. He checked the replay frame by frame in order to spot any contact between Nair’s shoes and the boundary rope, but did not find any conclusive evidence. In the end, the umpire deemed it a clean sav,e and Shashank got just 1 run instead of a six.
