A Texas state trooper assigned to the tunnel at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field has been removed from his game-day duties after an incident involving South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor and several of his teammates during the Gamecocks’ Week 12 match against third-ranked Texas A&M. The encounter occurred in the final minute of the first half, shortly after an 80-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Marcel Reed to Harbour put South Carolina 27-3 ahead.
After crossing into the end zone, Harbour continued running into the stadium tunnel while holding the back of his leg, prompting several teammates to follow and check on him. As players began to make their way back to the field, the trooper was seen shouldering Harbour and shouting at him.
“We are aware of the incident in the NE tunnel involving a DPS trooper. He has been relieved of his game day assignment,” Texas A&M’s Police Department said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Harbour’s touchdown was the last time South Carolina scored in the game. Texas A&M responded with three touchdowns in the third quarter – a 27-yard pass from Marcel Reed to Izaiah Williams, a 39-yard pass to Ashton Bethel-Roman and a 14-yard pass to Nate Boerkircher – reducing the deficit to a single score.
The Aggies completed the comeback in the fourth quarter with a 4-yard rushing touchdown by EJ Smith, overturning a 30-3 halftime scoreline to seal a 31-30 victory and preserve their unbeaten record.
