WATCH: Shubman Gill leaves Kolkata hospital in cervical collar as video goes viral

New Delhi: Shubman Gill’s injury scare has sparked concern across the Indian cricket setup, as in his absence India couldn’t chase down a target of 124 runs. With the second Test against South Africa still to come, his unavailability could create a major problem for the team. The India captain hurt his neck during the opening Test in Kolkata and was discharged from a local hospital on Sunday.

A short clip of him walking out of the building, wearing a cervical collar and surrounded by security and hospital staff, has now spread across social media, raising fresh questions about his immediate future.

Gill had suffered a sudden neck spasm on Day 2 of the first Test, shortly after he walked out to bat. He had barely played a few balls into his innings when he signaled for help and left the field with the physio by his side. What followed was even more worrying for fans with reports emerging that he had been taken to the hospital for observation and later shifted to the ICU as a precautionary measure.

The BCCI’s statement also made it clear that he would remain under medical supervision, naturally triggering discussions about whether India’s young skipper would recover in time for the second and final Test of the series.

Second Test in jeopardy?

The series now moves to Guwahati for the decider starting November 22 and Gill’s availability is still uncertain. While the video of him leaving the hospital offered some relief as he was able to walk without assistance but the cervical collar around his neck suggests that he may need more time before he can return to the nets.

Team India will be hoping for quick progress, especially after the defeat in Kolkata, adding pressure on the home side. With South Africa already 1-0 up, the final Test carries weight and Gill’s presence at the top and as captain would make a significant difference.
