This is Neeraj’s first competitive outing of the season. He finished second in the competition behind Germany’s Julian Webber, who also managed to breach the 90m mark for the first time in his career with a stunning throw of 90.16m.Coming into this competition, Neeraj and Webber had the most 88m+ throws in history without reaching 90. The 27-year-old also added another two throws above the 88m mark tonight. His first and last throw of the evening were of 88.44m and 88.20m, respectively. Meanwhile, his second and fifth throws were not measured as they were foul throws. The Indian star’s worst throw of the evening, which was recorded, was his fourth throw, which of only 80.56m. Despite not winning the event, Neeraj can breathe a huge sign of relief as he has won everything the sport has to offer and the 90m mark was the only remaining question mark on his unquestionable legacy. Despite winning two Olympic medals, multiple Asian Games golds, a Commonwealth and World Championship medal, Neeraj was repeatedly asked about the 90m mark in media interactions.
