The success of Chennai Love Story has once again put Kiran Abbavaram in the spotlight, but along with the appreciation have come claims that the film’s performance was boosted by a strong PR campaign.
During a recent media interaction, a reporter attempted to ask whether the actor had an efficient PR team behind his success.
Before the question could be completed, Kiran’s team tried to stop it. However, the actor himself intervened and said he would answer it.
Kiran responded with confidence, saying such comments were expected after delivering three consecutive hits.
“I knew these questions would come after scoring a hat trick. If PR alone could make films successful, then everyone would be delivering hits,” he said.
Referring to the success of Chennai Love Story, Kiran stated that it is unfair to undermine the audience’s verdict by crediting PR instead.
“It is very easy to throw cold water on a success like this. If success could be achieved through PR, every film would become a hit. Let us respect the audience this time. They made Chennai Love Story a success,” he said.
The actor further pointed out that nearly 60 percent of the film’s audience comprised families.
According to him, family audiences do not come to theatres because of Twitter trends or PR campaigns.
“They come because of positive word of mouth. That is what worked for this film,” he explained.
Kiran also revealed that this is not the first time he has faced such allegations.
“I have been hearing this since my second film. Now that I have delivered three hits in a row, I expected these comments,” he said.
Ending on a sarcastic note, he added that if PR could truly guarantee success, every film would comfortably collect Rs. 200 crore or Rs. 300 crore at the box office, as there are many affluent film makers around who can really spend on PR.
