New Delhi: Jofra Archer got England off to a flying start with the ball on Day 5 of the ongoing 3rd Test against India at Lord’s on Monday. Archer produced an exceptional delivery to clean up the dangerous Rishabh Pant and send his stumps cartwheeling. Pant was looking in fine form, having resumed India’s run chase on Day 5, however, a brilliant delivery undid the swashbuckling left-hander.
Pant and KL Rahul resumed India’s second innings from the overnight score of 58/5 on Day 5. Pant got off the mark with a single off Ben Stokes on the very first ball he faced, before smashing a boundary against Archer in the next over. The left-hander slammed another four against Archer in his next over after dancing down the track.
However, the England pacer had the last laugh as he dismantled the left-hander’s stumps on the penultimate delivery of the over. Archer bowled a length delivery from wide of the crease, which nipped back in and beat Pant’s edge to rattle his off stump. The off stump was sent cartwheeling as Pant departed after scoring 9 off 12 balls.

Archer was fired up after bagging the big wicket of Pant and gave the Indian batter an aggressive send-off. Pant’s departure came at the wrong time for India as the visitors were left reeling on 71/5 in no time in the morning session on Day 5. Pant was expected to play an important role for India in the run-chase, however, his early dismissal further strengthened England’s position in the Test match.
