The second innings of the Lord’s Test have seen severe drama from players of both teams. The Lord’s test is no more a matter of only gameplay but also a matter of strategic brilliance between the two teams.
India might have been on the front foot with their seamers picking early wickets and Washington Sundar delivering 4 crucial wickets in a memorable spell for generations to come. However, despite the Indian team leading until the end of England’s second innings, the emotions seemed to run high in London.
For Mohammed Siraj’s bowling, it has always been more about emotions, but this time around, one of India’s calmest players, Jasprit Bumrah, seemed bothered by the umpire’s decision in the match.
Jasprit Bumrah caught ‘hurling abuses’ on stump mic
Supposedly, it’s the adrenaline for Jasprit Bumrah after bowling so many overs with the new ball; he was heard referring to the third umpire’s decision in an abusive tone.
The incident marked Mohammed Siraj‘s bowling to Zak Crawley, as the ball went on to hit the batter’s pads, and a loud cheer for the LBW was made.
This resulted in the Indian players hurling to the centre of the pitch when Bumrah was heard saying, “Slope se na, be****hod umpire’s call ata hai”
Now, for a player of Jasprit Bumrah’s esteem, this would be a derogatory remark on the match-conducting umpires; however, the Jasprit Bumrah’s remarks were not meant for anyone. They were possibly just his opinion and the general tone of venting out his frustration among the team members.
Former Legends slam Umpire Paul Reiffel
Former legendary Indian cricketers Anil Kumble and Sunil Gavaskar were left furious on umpire Paul Reiffel for ruling out Joe Root’s LBW call as not out.
Sunil Gavaskar slammed the DRS technology, while Kumble took a more direct dig on the umpire himself.
When a ball from Mohammed Siraj went on to hit Joe Root in front of the wickets when he was shuffling across to play a shot. With the naked eye, it always looked like a wicket, but Paul Reiffel was adamant, as he did not raise his finger. Eventually, the DRS showed that the ball was brushing the top of the leg stump.
Anil Kumble remarked, “It seems Paul Reiffel has decided that it is not going to be out. Anything close, not out.”
“You’re saying it was going to kiss the leg stump? There’s no way. It was knocking the leg stump off. The only good thing is that India have not lost the review,” Gavaskar slammed the DRS technology.
Slope is set to play a huge role for in-swingers at Lord’s on Day 5
India was already troubled early by the English seamers; however, what caused the major trouble was leaving out on deliveries that suddenly nipped back in from outside the off-stump. KL Rahul survived a near dismissal, as Chris Woakes’ ball almost took off his off-stump.
The slope was the main reason that dismissed Karun Nair, and this is going to continue on the final day, as India will advance to Lord’s looking to chase the 135 runs remaining for securing their second win in the series.
