Watch: Freak incident in MLC 2025 as Jason Holder brutally hits stumps, but Shayan Jahangir survives

The 20th match of the ongoing Major League Cricket 2025 (MLC 2025) between the Los Angeles Knight Riders and the Seattle Orcas witnessed one of the rarest events on the field at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas on Saturday, June 28. The incident unfolded on the first ball of the 12th over when the Seattle Orcas were chasing 203 runs against the Los Angeles Knight Riders.

In a moment of pure drama, Seattle Orcas opener Shayan Jahangir had a huge stroke of luck as the Los Angeles Knight Riders burned a review off Jason Holder’s delivery. The ball made an impactful noise as Shayan Jahangir attempted a reverse lap but failed to make contact.

Shayan Jahangir survives a freak moment in the MLC 2025 thriller

Initially, it seemed the sound came from the bat brushing the ground, but the UltraEdge confirmed that the ball did not touch the pad or glove. But as the commentators were wrapping up the incident, the side-on replay revealed something shocking at the Grand Prairie Stadium.

Actually, the ball had kissed the outer part of the off-stump, but the bails stayed firmly in place. Luckily, Jahangir escaped from being bowled out, and the Los Angeles Knight Riders lost the review. He provided a great start to the Seattle Orcas by hammering a brilliant knock of 43 runs off 31 balls in the MLC 2025 game.

Shimron Hetmyer seals back-to-back wins as Seattle Orcas roar back in MLC 2025

After suffering five straight losses in the ongoing MLC 2025, the Seattle Orcas are on a roll with back-to-back wins, chasing down another 200+ target. Chasing 203, they had an early setback as Josh Brown fell on the second ball of the innings.

But then came a solid partnership between Shayan Jahangir and Aaron Jones. They added 119 runs off just 67 balls for the second wicket to take the MLC 2025 game away from LAKR. Aaron Jones was in top form, smashing 73 runs off 38 balls with 10 fours and 2 sixes.

However, things turned tense again when the Orcas lost three quick wickets, including Heinrich Klaasen for just 5. But Shimron Hetmyer, fresh off a brilliant knock of 97 runs the previous night, played another match-winning knock of 64 not out from just 26 balls.

During his knock, Hetmyer smacked 4 fours and 6 sixes to seal the win with a remarkable maximum. The Los Angeles Knight Riders used five bowlers but couldn’t defend what looked like a decent total. Captain Jason Holder and Tanveer Sangha picked up two wickets each.

I’m really happy where my game is at: Shimron Hetmyer

Earlier, LAKR posted 202/4 in their 20 overs. Andre Russell led the charge with a fiery unbeaten 65 off 39 balls, hitting 6 fours and 4 sixes. Saif Babar (41) and Rovman Powell (43*) also chipped in with useful knocks. For Seattle, Waqar Salamkheil stood out with the ball, taking two important wickets in this MLC 2025 clash in Dallas.

After winning the Player of the Match award, Shimron Hetmyer said, “Tired. Very, very tired. But I am thankful that we could get across the line and continue to do so. I go back to prayers; my wife and Ipray a lot before the game. Once we have a decent enough start, it makes it easier for the guys lower down. Actually, I’m really happy where my game is at. My leg is a little bit of a worry, but I will get it looked at.”
