WATCH: Four inmates attack police inside Kalyan court during jail transfer

Mumbai: A tense incident unfolded in Kalyan as inmates attacked a police officer inside the court complex while being escorted back to Aadarwadi jail. One officer was injured, and the matter has been registered with the Mahatma Phule Chowk police station.

Video footage from the incident shows an inmate repeatedly abusing the constable assigned to the transfer duty. The inmate can be seen passing obscured remarks while the officer remained on duty, instructing the bus driver to take the vehicle to a nearby police station.

What triggered the inmates?

According to reports, the tense situation unfolded in Kalyan near Maharashtra’s capital city of Mumbai as inmates attacked police personnel inside the court complex, leaving one officer injured. The incident occurred while the police were escorting accused individuals back to Aadarwadi jail. As per the reported information, eight accused were being presented in Kalyan court before being taken back to jail. A vehicle had been arranged for their transfer, but due to limited space, Naik Kishor Petare asked some inmates to sit at the rear. This led to anger among four prisoners, who then attacked him.

The accused involved have been identified as Akash Valmiki, Ganesh alias Shalu Marothia, Yoginder alias Bholu Dharmveer Marothia, and Vivek Shankar Yadav. They reportedly grabbed the officer by the collar, pushed him, and abused him, causing minor injuries.

Case lodged against all accused

Following the incident, a case was registered against the four inmates at Mahatma Phule Chowk police station. Police confirmed that the investigation into the assault and obstruction of official duties is underway.

Police have emphasised that maintaining law and order during prisoner transfers is a critical part of their responsibilities, and any act of aggression against personnel is treated with utmost seriousness.
