Watch: Devdutt Padikkal In Disbelief After Umpire Decision Ends 199 Run Knock

Devdutt Padikkal missed out on a well-deserved double century and departed for 199 in the first unofficial Test against New Zealand A in Lincoln.

He was caught behind off Zak Gibson when he was only one run short of the double century. Padikkal was in disbelief as he thought that he didn’t edge the ball at all. On his way back to the pavilion, Padikkal signalled to the umpire that there was a big gap between his bat and the ball. There is no DRS in the ongoing series.

Padikkal became the 17th Indian batter to be dismissed for 199 in first-class cricket. A week ago, Delhi opener Priyansh Arya departed for 199 during the Ranji Trophy game Gujarat at the Palam Ground.

It was after almost a decade that an Indian batter was dismissed for 199. KL Rahul missed out on a double century by just one during the Chennai Test against England in December 2016.

Mohammed Azharuddin is the only other Indian batter to get dismissed for 199 in a Test match. He missed out on a double-century in a home Test against Sri Lanka in 1986.

Sachin Tendulkar is also part of the list of Indian batters to get dismissed for 199. Playing for West Zone, Sachin departed for 199 against East Zone in a Duleep Trophy fixture.

Padikkal cements his spot in playing XI

Courtesy of this knock,  has cemented his spot in the playing XI ahead of Sai Sudharsan. Courtesy of his back-to-back centuries against Sri Lanka, Padikkal was already ahead of Sudharsan in the race.

Sudharsan also played an important knock and scored 91 off 184 balls. He and Padikkal rescued India A and added 215 rus for the third wicket. Sudharsan, who was set to bat at number 3 against SL, missed the series due to an injury.

India A have now have a lead of more than 200 runs and they are likely to declare after setting a target of 300. India A were bowled out for only 113 in their first innings.
