New Delhi: England pacer Chris Woakes bowled an exceptional delivery to bamboozle India all-rounder Nitish Reddy during the visitors’ first innings on Day 1 of the ongoing second Test between the two sides at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Wednesday. Woakes cleaned up Reddy cheaply on just 1 off six balls to help England bag two wickets in quick succession and shift the momentum in their favour.
The dismissal took place in the 62nd over when Woakes produced an absolute peach to leave Reddy stunned. It was a good length ball from the England pacer which pitched outside off and swung in late to crash into Reddy’s off stump. Reddy had raised his bat to leave the delivery, and had no answers as the ball swung viciously to castle his stumps.

Reddy was sent packing by Woakes immediately after India lost the wicket of a set Rishabh Pant in the previous over. Pant, who slammed twin centuries against England in the first Test between the two sides at Headingley in Leeds, looked in decent touch at the start of his innings. However, he failed to convert his start into a big score as he was dismissed on 25 off 42 balls, laced with a solitary six and a four.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill put India in control
Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Shubman Gill slammed half-centuries to help India remain in control in their first innings on Day 1 of the 2nd Test against England at Edgbaston. India lost KL Rahul (2) early in the morning session, before Jaiswal and Karun Nair shared a 80-run stand for the second wicket to get the visitors back on track.
Nair was dismissed at the stroke of Lunch after scoring 31, however, Jaiswal continued his fine form post the break and went on to notch up a brilliant 87 off 107 balls. He added another important stand of 66 runs with Gill, who also completed his half-century immediately after Tea and is cruising towards his second successive century in the series.
