Abhishek Sharma gets run-out after a mix-up with skipper Suryakumar Yadav
The Indian left-handed batter Abhishek Sharma has so far been the highest scorer in the Asia Cup 2025. The batter who played a stunning match-winning innings against Pakistan has continued to deliver with the bat.
Set against the backdrop of another promising opening stand between Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma, India has dominated the first half of the game. Abhishek single-handedly smashed 75 off just 37 balls with 6 fours and 5 sixes.
Just when the batter looked flawless with a strike rate over 200, he was run out at the non-striker’s end. Skipper Suryakumar called for the run after playing a fine cut short through the point region; however, it was well fielded by Rishad Hossain.
The skipper immediately overturned his decision and sent Abhishek back, who by then had reached the centre of the pitch. Rishad was too swift to get up and throw the ball sharply at the non-striker’s end to get rid of the dangerous Indian batter.
Hardik Pandya leads India to a respectable total after a middle-order collapse
After being sent in to bat first, Indian openers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma took some time to analyze the pitch conditions and then started with their effortless hitting. Gill was the architect of India’s powerplay success initially, before Abhishek joined in.
The duo led India to 72/0 in the first 6 overs. Abhishek single-handedly went on to score 75 runs off just 37 balls, while setting the tone for a big score. However, the Indian middle order once again collapsed during the middle overs.
Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Tilak Varma all failed to get runs in the middle order. Experienced all-rounder Hardik Pandya, however, was the only batter to add some runs in the death overs. Pandya’s 38 off 29 balls led India to a decent 168 in their 20 overs.
Sanju Samson makes way for a new no. 3 in the form of Shivam Dubey
Though this Asia Cup has been a success saga for the youngster Abhishek Sharma, the same tournament has been a major disappointment for his former opening partner, Sanju Samson.
With Shubman Gill’s return, Samson lost his opening role to the Indian vice-captain. However, he has not been dropped from the side, as he is the first-choice keeper in the side. However, with India playing in 5 games so far, Samson has had only two batting opportunities.
Sanju Samson, despite having scored a 50 against Oman, received criticism for his slow-paced innings and this time the Indian management has demoted him to the no. 8 position in the batting order. Instead, all-rounder Shivam Dube was sent in early as the no. 3 batter; however, he returned with a disheartening score of 2 runs.
