Kolkata: The wholesale inflation shot to 8.3% in April which is the highest footprint in the current series. The data was released by the government today amid sustained economic stress and energy constraints generated by the US-Iran war which started on February 28 but is yet to find a formula for lasting truce. WPI or Wholesale Price Index-based inflation jumped from 3.86% in March. The data makes it clear that the wholesale prices have been trigged by prices of crude oil, natural gas, metals and manufactured products.
