Virender Sehwag’s son Aaryavir made his debut for the India U-19 team on Friday (September 18) at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot during the first Youth ODI of a three-match series against the Australia U-19 team.
Aaryavir’s debut came on the back of earning a maiden call-up to the national squad at the junior level for the white-ball series.
Aaryavir was named in the playing XI and opened the batting for the team alongside skipper Lakshya Raichandani. Interestingly, Rahul Dravid’s younger, Anvway, also found a place and batted at number six. He was also named as the team’s designated wicket-keeper batter.
Aaryavir made a strong first impression with a knock of 28 runs in just 26 balls after the match was reduced to a 20-over game after a huge rain delay. The right-hander was dismissed by Spencer Green in the 7th over after a 45-run opening partnership.
Later, Anvay played a valuable cameo of 38 in just 18 balls to ensure the World Champions posted a massive score of 182 on the board.
Virender Sehwag Spotted In Stadium
Meanwhile, Virender was spotted in the stands as his son was handed his maiden cap. Both the sons of Indian cricket legend are cricketers. The same is the case in the Dravid family too, whose elder son, Samit, is a fast-bowling all-rounder who played for the Indian U-19 team in 2024. However, he was unable to be part of the Indian team for the 2026 U-19 World Cup as he celebrated his 20th birthday in October 2025.
The same will be the case with Aaryavir, as he will celebrate his 20th birthday in 2027, which will make ineligible to play the 2028 ICC U19 World Cup. However, the 17-year-old Anway will be eligible to play the next edition of the mega event, where India will aim to defend their title.
