Virat Kohli reaches Major List A Milestone in Vijay Hazare Trophy, 2nd Indian after Sachin Tendulkar

Virat Kohli etched his name into cricket history by becoming just the ninth player ever to cross the 16,000-run mark in List A cricket.

The Indian batting maestro achieved this milestone during the Delhi vs Andhra Vijay Hazare Trophy match in 2025, underscoring his enduring dominance in limited-overs domestic cricket at age 37. Kohli only needed a run to get to the mark, and he did that without any issue.

With this feat, Kohli also joins an elite club as the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to reach the landmark, further cementing his legacy as one of the game’s all-time greats.

Kohli has been in excellent form in recent times, and he has continued that upon his return to domestic limited overs cricket. In the match against Andhra, he remains unbeaten on 58 off 49 deliveries.

Kohli’s journey to 16,000 List A runs reflects his remarkable consistency and hunger for runs across formats. Starting his List A career in 2006, he has now amassed 16057 runs in 342 matches at an astonishing average of 57.34, including 57 centuries and 85 fifties.

His highest score of 183 highlights his ability to dominate attacks, and reaching this total in fewer innings than most ahead of him speaks volumes about his efficiency-only Tendulkar (45.54 average) boasts a higher career List A average among players with 15,000+ runs.

This accomplishment places Kohli among batting legends who have piled up massive List A tallies over decades. Icons like Graham Gooch (22,211 runs from 1973-1997) and Graham Hick (22,059 runs from 1983-2008) lead the charts with prolific careers spanning over 600 matches each.

Tendulkar’s benchmark, sits third with 21,999 runs, while Kumar Sangakkara (19,456) and Viv Richards (16,995) – known for his explosive strokeplay – round out the top five. Ricky Ponting (16,363) and Chris Greenidge (16,349) follow closely, with Sanath Jayasuriya (16,128) completing the group above 16,000.

Kohli’s rise to ninth, leapfrogging players like Jayasuriya while chasing down Richards and Ponting in the coming years, highlights his sustained excellence amid a packed international schedule.
