Kohli came at the wicket after the fall of Rohit Sharma and looked in sublime form from the word go. He smoked six boundaries within a span of a few deliveries to show how good a form he’s in. The wicket of Rohit Sharma put some pressure on India in a chase of 200, but Kohli’s fluent innings turned the pendulum back in favour of India.
Virat Kohli Scripts History
Kohli needed just 25 runs to become the fastest batsman to reach 28000 runs, and first to do it in less than 630 innings, and he reached the landmark with a thumping boundary off Adithya Ashok on his 19th delivery. He became the third player, after Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara, to score 28000 or more runs in international cricket. Tendulkar achieved the feat in 644th innings while Sangakkara took 666 innings to score 28000 runs. Kohli, so far, has played 624 innings, scoring 28000+ runs, including 84 centuries.

Meanwhile, Kohli also went past Kumar Sangakkara to become the second leading run scorer in ODIs. Sangakkara ended his career with 28016 runs in 666 innings, including 63 centuries and 153 fifties. Tendulkar, on the other hand, sits at the top, with 34357 runs, including 100 centuries and 164 fifties.
Kohli won’t be able to break the record of most runs in international cricket, but he will have a chance to break the record of 100 centuries if he can continue his purple patch till the World Cup 2027. Kohli needs another 17 centuries to go past Tendulkar in just over 30 ODI matches if India reach the final of the ODI World Cup.
