Vir Das is an actor, a writer, a comic, and now is also turning director. This one should be worth the wait. His tweets and interviews reflect his intellect and wit.
His film choices like Delhi Belly and Go Goa Gone have stood the test of time. His Bollywood debut happened in the year 2007 with a film called Mumbai Salsa. He also did a cameo in Namstey London with Katrina Kaif and Rishi Kapoor. In an interview recently, the actor shared two anecdotes about the late actor who was known for films like Karz, Bobby, and Henna.
Vir Das recalled the time when he was newcomer and how Rishi Kapoor shook his hand. He also shared an amusing anecdote about bumping into him on a flight.
Vir Das on the sets of Namastey London
The actor revealed, “There is Rishi Kapoor, Nina Wadia and Katrina Kaif. On the other side, it is me and… we were the junior artistes – me and a woman playing my mother.”
He added, “There is an umbrella over Rishi Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and Nina Wadia’s heads. But me and my mother are baking in the sun. We are the only two sweaty people in this beautiful Bollywood scene.”
On meeting Rishi Kapoor post the shot
Das said, “Rishi Kapoor is a cool guy. He asked me, ‘Beta tumhara naam kya hai?’ and I said, ‘Vir Das.’ He put his hand forward and was like, ‘Shake my hand, son.’” Vir laughed as he added, “When you shake Rishi Kapoor’s hand, you become Tina Munim from Karz. All your masculine energy just drains out and you are his heroine in that moment.”
Bumping into him on a flight
“I’m in the back of a flight, and like in the front of the flight, I hear some chikad chikad happening between a couple in business class, ‘You can’t eat the cake.’ ‘I want to eat the cake.’ ‘You’re not allowed to eat the cake,” revealed the Delhi Belly star.
Vir continued, “He’s like, ‘Arre, Vir.’ He comes and sits down next to me, and he tells me this story. He’s like you know… and he gave me this list of guys who started with him. Then at some point, he’s like, ‘You’re going to eat your cake?’ Then Rishi Kapoor ate my cake.”
