Sanjeev Kumar from Solan, Himachal Pradesh, didn’t just break the bank, he obliterated it, dropping a jaw-dropping Rs 14 lakh on a VIP number plate for his new Honda Activa, a scooter worth Rs 1 lakh. That’s 14 times the scooter’s price. While most of us are debating whether to splurge on extra cheese for pizza, Sanjeev’s out here making his Activa the talk of the town with a plate so elite, it probably demands its own parking spot.
No limit for VIP number plate
According to a PTI report, a man spent Rs 14 lakh on a Rs 1 lakh scooter, not for the ride, but for the bragging rights of owning the VIP number plate HP21C-0001. That’s one way to say, ‘It’s not about the scooter, it’s about the status’. Some may call it an extravagant purchase, while netizens on social media were divided over this. One comment even questioned Kumar’s sanity and said, “He has gone mad”. As shocking as we mere mortals were, Kumar coolly explains, “There’s no price tag on passion. When you want something extraordinary, you don’t look at the cost.” He said that he always wanted a VIP number. His son Dinesh Kumar said that his father’s decision was made purely on his wanting a unique number plate. He said that his father applied and bid for this number plate on the official Himachal Pradesh Transport Department website. The online auction came down to two, and the second-highest bid was Rs 13.5 lakh, but Kumar outbid it by an additional Rs 50,000 to own the most expensive two-wheeler registration number.
Honda Activa Price
Sanjeev Kumar spent Rs 14 lakh on the VIP number plate for his around Rs 1 lakh Honda Activa. The report does not reveal whether the scooter is the Activa 110 or the Activa 125. The Activa 110 is available in three variants – Standard, DLX and Smart, starting from Rs 80,977 to Rs 94,998. The more powerful Activa 125 is two trims – DLX and Smart. The former is priced at Rs 95,702 and Rs 99,674, ex-showroom Delhi.
