VinFast extends free EV charging for India customers till March 31, 2029

New Delhi: Electric vehicle adoption in India is picking up pace, but one concern still comes up in almost every conversation I have: Charging costs and infrastructure. That is where new policies from global EV players are starting to matter more than flashy launches.

VinFast has now extended its free charging program across India, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The move signals a longer push to bring down running costs for EV users, especially in early adoption markets like India.

Free charging till 2029, what it means

VinFast says all its EV owners in these markets will get free charging at its V-Green network till March 31, 2029. This applies to both current owners and new buyers.

From a user point of view, this changes the cost math. If you remove fuel expense for a few years, EV ownership starts looking more practical. The program will cover private buyers, fleet operators, and even drivers using ride-hailing services like Green SM.

Discounts to push adoption

Alongside the charging plan, VinFast’s parent Vingroup is running a limited-time offer called “Trade Gas for Electric.”

This program is active from March 11 to March 31, 2026. It offers a 3 percent discount on electric cars and a 5 percent discount on electric scooters for users switching from petrol vehicles. The offer runs together with other incentives already available in each market.

EV ecosystem

VinFast is also expanding its charging network through V-Green. This matters more than it sounds. Free charging works only when chargers are easy to find.

The company is also offering other support measures like battery subscription, resale value assurance, and flexible payment options. These are aimed at reducing the upfront cost and making EV ownership less stressful for buyers.
