VinFast Electric Scooter Entry Gets Real: 50+ Showrooms Planned Across 34 Cities

VinFast has taken its clearest step yet towards entering the electric two-wheeler market, signing letters of intent with more than 50 dealer partners for a dedicated scooter and motorcycle retail network. The planned network will cover 34 cities across 15 states and Union Territories.

The outlets are separate from VinFast’s passenger-car network and are intended specifically for electric two-wheelers. The company has not announced the first model, launch date or price yet, but the scale of the dealer sign-up makes the two-wheeler programme far more concrete than the design patents and product hints seen earlier this year.

The planned coverage stretches across Delhi NCR, Rajasthan and Punjab in the north; Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in central regions; Maharashtra and Gujarat in the west; Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh in the south; and West Bengal and Odisha in the east.

Scooters Are Expected To Come First

VinFast had already said it planned to enter the two-wheeler market in the second half of 2026 with electric scooters developed specifically for local requirements.

The company has also filed design patents for multiple two-wheelers, including the Viper electric scooter and the Rasad maxi-scooter concept. Those filings do not confirm which models will actually be launched, but they show the range of products VinFast is evaluating.

The Viper sold in Vietnam gives an idea of the type of scooter VinFast already has available. It uses a 3kW peak-output hub motor, has a claimed 70kph top speed and can take either one or two 1.5kWh LFP batteries. With two batteries fitted, the company claims up to 156km under its test conditions.

The Rasad is a larger, sportier maxi-scooter. Its technical specifications have not been officially announced, although reports from Vietnam have pointed to a centrally mounted motor producing around 7.1kW and a possible 100kph top speed. Neither specification should be assumed for the eventual locally sold models.

Local Production Is Part Of The Plan

VinFast already operates its electric-car assembly plant at Thoothukudi in Tamil Nadu. The company and the state government signed an expansion agreement in late 2025 that included dedicated production lines for electric buses and scooters.

That second phase involves a planned investment of $500 million and additional land next to the existing factory. VinFast has also spoken of a long-term electric two-wheeler production target of up to one million units annually if volumes justify the scale.

The retail network therefore fits into a larger plan covering manufacturing, charging and after-sales support rather than simply importing a few scooters and testing demand.

It Is Entering A Much Tougher Market Than Cars

The opportunity is large, but so is the competition. More than 2.07 lakh electric two-wheelers were registered in September 2026 alone, accounting for about 11.6 percent of the overall two-wheeler market.

TVS led electric two-wheeler registrations during the month with roughly 54,000 units, followed by Bajaj at around 48,000. Ather crossed 30,000, Hero’s Vida business exceeded 24,000 and Ola registered around 13,500 units.

That means VinFast will enter a segment where established manufacturers already have products, service networks and growing volumes. The company is at least preparing the retail infrastructure before launching the scooters. More than 50 planned showrooms across 34 cities is a serious starting footprint for a new entrant.
