Margshirsha Vinayak Chaturthi 2025: Today is Vinayak Chaturthi of Margashirsha month. In Hindu religion, the fast of Vinayak Chaturthi is dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. This fast is observed twice every month on the Chaturthi date of Krishna and Shukla Paksha. Vinayak Chaturthi fast is observed in Sankashti during Krishna Paksha and Vinayak Chaturthi during Shukla Paksha. Lord Ganesha is worshiped with rituals on the day of Vinayak Chaturthi.

Fast story of Vinayaka Chaturthi (Vinayaka Chaturthi Ki Vrat Katha)
According to the mythology described in religious texts, once upon a time there was the rule of a king named King Harishchandra. A potter lived in the king’s kingdom. He used to feed his family by making earthen pots. That potter was always in trouble. Because his utensils always remained raw. Due to this, his income started decreasing because people did not buy his pottery.
Seeing his problems the potter met a priest. The potter narrated all his troubles to the priest. After listening to him the priest told the potter the solution. The priest told the potter that whenever you cook earthen pots, put a small child in the pot along with them. The potter did as the priest told him. The day the potter did this, coincidentally there was a fast of Vinayak Chaturthi.
The mother of the child whom the potter kept with Amwa was searching for him, but she could not find the child. She prayed to Lord Ganesha for the well-being of her child. The next morning the potter looked at his earthen pots and found that all his pots were cooked. The child was also in Aavan and was safe. Seeing this the potter became frightened and reached the king’s court.
The potter told the whole story in the king’s court. After this the king called the child and his mother in the court. Then the king asked the mother to tell her what she had done that nothing happened to her child even in Amva. After hearing this, the child’s mother told that she had observed a fast on Vinayak Chaturthi and had worshiped Lord Ganesha. After this the potter also started fasting on Vinayak Chaturthi. Due to the effect of fasting and worship, all his troubles also went away.
