Vilaayath Budha (Vilayath Buddha) OTT Release Update: Prithviraj Sukumaran teamed up with director Jayan Nambiar, the former associate of late filmmaker Sachy, for his recent Malayalam film.
Vilaayath Budha (Vilayath Buddha), which was released in November 2025, received negative reviews from the audiences and ended up as a box office disaster. The Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer, as expected, has not got its OTT release, yet.

As reported earlier, the OTT streaming rights of Vilaayath Budha were sold much before its release, for a decent price. The sources close to the projects had hinted that the post-theatrical rights of the Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer are bagged by the OTT giant Jio Hotstar. Even though Jayan Nambiar’s film was expected to get its OTT release in December 2025 or January 2026, it is not out yet.
What Happened To Vilaayath Budha OTT Release?
If the recent updates are to be believed, Vilaayath Budha might not get its OTT release, anytime soon. As per the recent updates, the digital rights deal between the makers of the Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer and Jio Hotstar has been put on hold for now, owing to the film’s underwhelming performance at the box office.
Reportedly, the streaming giant has been having second thoughts about the film’s digital release, owing to its disastrous box office run and lack of good reviews. Now, it is confirmed that the fate of Vilaayath Budha OTT release remains uncertain for now. However, the Prithviraj Sukumaran fans are still hoping that the issues will get resolved very soon.
Vilaayath Budha Plot, Cast And Crew
Prithviraj Sukumaran appeared in the role of Double Mohanan aka Sandal Mohanan, a small-town based smuggler in the Jayan Nambiar directorial. Shammi Thilakan, on the other hand, played the role of Mohanan’s former teacher-turned-arch rival Bhaskaran mash in Vilaayath Budha, which features Priyamvada Krishnan as the female lead.
Suraj Venjaramoodu, Anu Mohan, Rajashree, Teejay Arunasalam, Dhruvan, Pramod Veliyanadu, Vinod Thomas, and others played the supporting roles. Jakes Bejoy composed the songs and the original score for Vilaayath Budha. Sreejith Sarang handled the editing. Arvind S Kashyap and Ranadive handled the cinematography.
