Actor Vikram Prabhu, grandson of Sivaji Ganesan, makes his Telugu debut with Anushka Shetty’s Ghaati. He says his role ‘Desiraju’, written for him by Krish, will give the audience a fresh experience.
Hyderabad: In an exclusive conversation with Telangana Today, actor Vikram Prabhu opened up about his Telugu debut in Ghaati, the highly-anticipated action drama starring Anushka Shetty. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, the film is produced by Rajeev Reddy and Sai Babu Jagarlamudi under First Frame Entertainment, with UV Creations presenting it. Ghaati will hit theatres worldwide on September 5.
Vikram Prabhu, the grandson of legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan and son of actor Prabhu, is already familiar to Telugu audiences through Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan, where he played Parthibendra Pallava. With Ghaati, he is stepping even closer to Tollywood fans.
A role written for him
Speaking about his character, Vikram revealed that director Krish had specifically written the role of “Desiraju” keeping him in mind.
“Before narrating the story, Krish showed me how the world of Ghaati would look. He even explained why he chose me, recalling many scenes from my earlier films. That made me very happy,” he said.
Why Ghaati felt special
The actor admitted that the freshness of the script convinced him.
“Krish did a lot of homework. He answered every doubt with clarity. After hearing the narration, I knew this was a story I wanted to be part of,” Vikram said.
Sharing screen space with Anushka Shetty was another big draw.
“I missed working with her in the past, but I am glad it finally happened. Anushka is as powerful as she is sweet, and she can express everything through her eyes,” he noted.
A Telugu debut long awaited
Though this is his first direct Telugu film, Vikram confessed that he has always admired the industry.
“I grew up watching films of Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna in theatres. I have always wanted to act in Telugu, but nothing in my life has gone as per plan. This film feels like the right beginning,” he explained.
On Krish’s direction
Calling Krish a “poetic filmmaker,” Vikram said working with him was a comfortable experience.
“Every scene is designed to connect with the audience. His clarity makes actors feel confident,” he remarked.
Action, music, and more
Vikram, who enjoys doing action, praised the film’s visual and technical strength.
“The action in this film is very different. Our DOP Manoj brought great energy to the shoot. And no matter how well we perform, it is music that finally breathes life into the film. Sagar’s music has done exactly that,” he added.
A word on production
He also appreciated the passion of the producers.
“You can’t back a film like this unless you have true commitment. They made us all feel comfortable,” he said.
As Ghaati gears up for release, Vikram Prabhu is hopeful that the audience will experience something truly new through his character Desiraju.
