Ganesh ji Puja Rules: The holy festival of Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi is being celebrated with full devotion this year on 5 April 2026. This day is dedicated to the special worship of Lord Ganesha, who removes all the obstacles from our life. It is believed that worship performed as per rituals on this day opens the doors of good fortune for a person, but unintentional mistakes made during the puja can lead to bad results instead of auspicious results. Keep these things in mind while worshiping and applying tilak
- While anointing Lord Ganesha, never offer water directly to him, always bathe him with the help of incense sticks or flowers.
- The intact (rice) grains used for Tilak should not be broken, as broken material is not acceptable in worship.
- Do not even by mistake use Tulsi leaves in the worship of Lord Ganesha, because Tulsi is considered prohibited in his worship in the scriptures.
- Flowers offered to Bappa should always be fresh and keeping them directly on the ground should be avoided.
- To maintain the dignity of puja, avoid reusing any old or stale material.
- Keep your mind calm during the worship and complete every process with full devotion.
Necessary precautions while offering moon darshan and arghya
- It is very important to offer Arghya to the Moon during the fast of Sankashti Chaturthi, but one should avoid making some mistakes during this period.
- While offering water at the rising of the moon, take care that the splashes of the Arghya do not fall on your feet.
- To avoid water falling on the feet, the best way is to keep a plate or a big vessel below it.
- While offering Arghya, keep your eyes down and pray to the Moon in your mind with full devotion.
- Do not take only plain water for Arghya, rather add some raw milk and Akshat (rice) to it.
- At the time of Moon darshan, do not harbor bad feelings towards anyone and avoid being restless, otherwise the results of the puja may be reduced.
Correct rule of offering Durva to Bappa
To please Lord Ganesha, there is no need for mere external show off or expensive material, but true devotion and his most favorite thing ‘Durva’ is of utmost importance. Offering 21 bales of Durva during the puja on Vikat Sankashti Chaturthi is considered very auspicious. Keep in mind that always offer only the upper soft part of Durva to Lord Ganesha and while offering it, chant the mantra ‘Om Gan Ganpataye Namam’ in a calm mind. This small gift has the power to remove big obstacles in your life. Along with this, do not forget to take blessings of your mother after the puja, because for Bappa his mother was the whole world.
