Tiruppur: Nine individuals—including seven women and TVK candidate Sukumar—fainted after waiting for an extended period in the scorching sun to catch a glimpse of party leader and actor Vijay, who is set to commence his election campaign in Tiruppur shortly for the Tamil Nadu election 2026. The incident has caused considerable shock among party cadres and the public.
Vijay in Tiruppur
Thousands of party cadres, fans, and members of the general public had been waiting in Perumanallur since early morning to see Vijay. As large crowds from Tiruppur and surrounding areas gathered throughout the morning, severe overcrowding and congestion ensued. Due to the intense heat, water was continuously distributed to the public. Nevertheless, people began to faint suddenly and in quick succession, and were immediately rushed to a hospital via ambulance.

TVK candidate Sukumar also faints
Sukumar, the TVK candidate for the Sulur taluk in Coimbatore, had been waiting with his supporters at the Kaniyur toll plaza to welcome Vijay. Overcome by the crowd congestion and the intense heat, he too suddenly fainted. His supporters immediately came to his aid and revived him.
Vijay campaign in Tiruppur
Vijay flew from Chennai to Coimbatore earlier today and is currently traveling to Tiruppur in a campaign vehicle via the Cochin-Salem six-lane highway. He is in Tiruppur to campaign in support of TVK candidates across the district’s eight legislative assembly constituencies: Tiruppur North, Tiruppur South, Avinashi, Palladam, Kangayam, Dharapuram, Udumalai, and Madathukulam.
The fact that nine people—including Sulur candidate Sukumar and seven women—fainted in succession while waiting to see Vijay has raised concerns about crowd management and public safety during the ongoing heatwave conditions.
