Rally turns deadly

Actor Vijay, chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), held a public rally in Salem, Tamil Nadu, on Friday. A 37-year-old fan named Suraj from Maharashtra fainted during the event and was rushed to the hospital. He suffered a heart attack and was declared dead on arrival, as per news agency ANI.

Police confirmed the details, stating: “During the event, he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed for medical assistance, but was declared dead, reportedly due to a heart attack. Police are conducting further inquiries into the incident.” It was first thought that the death came from crowd congestion, but medical reports point to cardiac arrest. This marks another loss after the recent Karur stampede at a Vijay event.

 Fan frenzy overwhelms security

Videos shared by Polimer News captured the wild scenes. Hundreds of fans chased Vijay’s car on bikes, waving and screaming as he passed. Vijay waved back, gave thumbs up, and even gestured to fans to be careful.

Near the venue, the mob blocked his car completely. Police whistled and used sirens to clear the way, while Vijay’s security shoved back the crowd. Fans pressed closer, undeterred, creating a ruckus. Traffic halted as people honked in frustration, with the crowd running dangerously alongside the vehicle once it moved.

Growing concerns over crowds

These incidents highlight the massive fan devotion to Vijay, now turning political leader. The Salem rally saw police and security overwhelmed by the enthusiasm. Further probes continue into Suraj’s death, amid calls for better crowd management at TVK events. Vijay’s rising star in politics draws huge turnouts, but at a high cost.
