Choreographer Vijay Ganguly has expressed gratitude after winning the National Film Award for Best Choreography for the song ‘Aaj Ki Raat’ from Stree 2, crediting the film’s team and especially actress Tamannaah Bhatia for the song’s success.
Sharing a picture from the National Awards on social media, Ganguly described the achievement as “unreal” and said he had dreamed of the moment since he was young.
He thanked producer Dinesh Vijan and director Amar Kaushik for trusting him and for supporting the decision to shoot the song at a live location despite the challenges involved.
Ganguly also singled out Tamannaah Bhatia, who featured in the song, for her contribution.
“@tamannaahspeaks – You made this happen !! thank you for making ‘aaj ki raat’ where it has reached, this is a core memory and u are the biggest part of it!” he wrote.
The choreographer also acknowledged Abhishek Pai for his persistence during the making of the song and thanked the dancers who performed in difficult and cold conditions.
He expressed appreciation for the creative and technical team, including those involved in the song’s production, live-location arrangements, cinematography and styling. He also thanked filmmaker Dinesh Vijan and director Amar Kaushik for their support throughout the project.
Ganguly had a special mention for his mother, Rajani Ganguly, who attended the National Awards ceremony, and his sister Rupali Ganguly. He also thanked Nandini Kumar for helping him remain calm before going on stage and credited Timir and Tisa Studio for his award-ceremony outfit.
‘Aaj Ki Raat’, featuring Tamannaah in a special appearance, emerged as one of the most popular songs from Stree 2, with Ganguly’s choreography becoming a major part of its appeal.
Ganguly has choreographed several popular Bollywood songs over the years. He gained wider recognition with ‘Galti Se Mistake’ from Jagga Jasoos and has subsequently worked on songs for films including Atrangi Re, Jigra, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Dhurandhar.
He is also the brother of actress Rupali Ganguly.
