Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘Ranabaali’ Gets U/A Certificate Ahead of Oct 16 Release

Director Rahul Sankrityan’s much-anticipated period action drama ‘Ranabaali’, starring Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles, has been cleared for release by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A certificate.

Mythri Movie Makers, which has produced the film, announced the development on its social media platforms, confirming that the movie is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on October 16.

Sharing the update, the production house wrote, “A story that survived generations. A legend that deserves to be witnessed. This October 16th, On the biggest screens, be part of correcting our history in an epic experience. #Ranabaali — U/A Certified. Book your tickets. Witness the legend. GRAND RELEASE WORLDWIDE ON 16.10.26. #NeverForget #RanabaaliOnOct16th.”

The film has generated considerable anticipation among fans and film enthusiasts and is among the eagerly awaited releases of the year. It was initially scheduled to arrive in theatres on September 11 before being postponed to October 16.

Vijay Deverakonda plays the titular character, Ranabaali, while Rashmika Mandanna portrays his wife, Jayamma. Arnold Vosloo, known for his role in ‘The Mummy’, plays the antagonist, Sir Theodore Hector.

Produced on a grand scale by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar, the film is presented by T-Series. Set against the backdrop of British rule in India, the period action drama is based on historical events said to have taken place between 1854 and 1878.

According to sources, ‘Ranabaali’ draws inspiration from real incidents from the 19th century that they claim have received limited attention in mainstream history books. The film is expected to explore events from the period between 1850 and 1900, including incidents that, according to the sources, were misrepresented by the British in historical accounts.

Sources have also clarified that the film is neither a biopic nor a straightforward retelling of textbook history. Instead, it is described as a cinematic reconstruction of an era drawing on multiple real-life accounts, oral histories and records said to have been suppressed.

‘Ranabaali’ will mark the third film in which Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna will share screen space as a lead pair, following their collaborations in ‘Geetha Govindam’ and ‘Dear Comrade’.

With its U/A certification secured and worldwide release scheduled for October 16, the film is set to bring its portrayal of a turbulent historical period to cinemas across India and overseas.
