Video: Split-Second Turn, Truck Topples Onto Bolero in Rampur, Driver Crushed to Death

Delhi-Nainital Highway-87 near Pahadi Gate intersection in Rampur saw a fatal crash when a truck carrying wood shavings toppled onto a Bolero.

The SUV driver, identified as Firasat, died on the spot after being crushed inside the vehicle, which was flattened under the truck. CCTV footage later showed the sequence leading to the Rampur truck accident.

Visuals from the scene showed the Bolero completely smashed, barely recognisable under the overturned truck. In the footage, the Bolero started turning at a highway cut, while the loaded truck approached from behind. As the driver of the Bolero turned suddenly, the following truck swerved towards the divider, then lost balance and fell onto the SUV.

Rescue operations and traffic impact in Rampur truck accident

The collision triggered a major traffic disruption on Delhi-Nainital Highway-87, with vehicles stuck for almost three hours. Local police reached the spot and began rescue work using four cranes, two bulldozers and later a JCB machine. Traffic was diverted through alternative routes, while officers tried to clear the wreckage and restore partial movement on the busy corridor.

According to officials, the wood shavings spilled across the highway the moment the truck overturned. The Bolero was trapped fully beneath the vehicle, giving the driver no chance to escape. Witnesses gathered around the site, while police from Ganj Kotwali, Civil Lines and Nagar Kotwali joined the joint rescue effort, which continued for several hours after the Rampur truck accident.

Victim details and vehicle positions in Rampur truck accident

Firasat, a resident of Gujar Tola, worked as a driver for an electricity department SDO’s Bolero. On Sunday around 4:30 pm, Firasat dropped the SDO at the Khoud substation and drove back towards home. His house was about one kilometre from the highway intersection where the crash later took place, as he tried to turn from the highway cut.

Police said Firasat began turning the Bolero at the Pahadi Gate intersection cut without checking the truck closing in from behind. By the time Firasat noticed the approaching vehicle, the Bolero had already crossed half the road. The truck driver then steered towards the central divider to avoid a direct hit, but the front wheel climbed the divider, the truck tilted, scraped the Bolero and toppled over it.

Injury pattern, rescue timeline and investigation in Rampur truck accident

The impact left the Bolero completely crushed under the truck’s weight. Firasat’s body was jammed between the steering and the damaged cabin. Police said the driver’s head was flattened and the spine shattered into several pieces due to extreme pressure. It took about thirty minutes of crane work just to lift the truck enough to access the trapped SUV.

Rescuers first shifted the overturned truck to the roadside, then used a JCB to push the wood shavings away. The truck was partially emptied after about ninety minutes to stabilise it. The Bolero was then cut open carefully, and the body removed from the steering area with considerable effort. The injured truck driver was taken to hospital, but reportedly fled after receiving around half an hour of treatment.

Official response and key figures in Rampur truck accident

Senior officers, including SP Vidyasagar Mishra, visited the site and reviewed the situation. Police later moved the truck to the police station compound. A traffic backlog of nearly two kilometres had formed by then, as long-distance traffic along the Delhi-Nainital route slowed significantly during clearance work and vehicle recovery operations.

SP Vidyasagar Mishra stated, “Officials have been instructed to investigate the matter. The body of the Bolero driver has been sent for post-mortem. The family has been informed about the incident. The truck driver has fled and a search is underway. The truck has been parked at the police station.” Police confirmed that the Bolero driver’s family had been informed and legal formalities were underway.

Another risky incident from Uttar Pradesh also drew attention, although unrelated to the Rampur truck accident. In Mau, a youth recorded a REEL by lying between railway tracks while a moving train passed overhead, then posted it online. Earlier, the same youth reportedly staged a prank by placing a body on an e-rickshaw to create shocking content.

This sequence of events on Delhi-Nainital Highway-87 highlights how a sudden lane change at a highway cut, combined with a loaded truck’s evasive move, proved fatal for Firasat. Data from the crash scene, rescue response and traffic disruption show the severity of the Rampur truck accident, while investigation orders indicate the case remains active with police.
