On Thursday, NDA leaders met for the Vice Presidential election. In this, the responsibility of deciding the candidates was entrusted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President JP Nadda. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that Narendra Modi and JP Nadda will finalize the NDA candidate for the Vice Presidential election. The Election Commission has issued a notification. Voting will take place on 9 September.
Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned
Senior leaders including JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Shiv Sena leader Shrikant Shinde, Milind Deora, Praful Patel, Chirag Paswan, Upendra Kushwaha, Ram Mohan, Lalan Singh, Apna Dal (S) leaders Anupriya Patel and Ramdas Athawale were present at the meeting of NDA. Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has resigned on the first day of the monsoon session due to health reasons. Due to this, the Vice President has come to hold elections.
Vice Presidential election to be held on 9 September, Election Commission issued notification
Voting for the Vice Presidential election will be held on 9 September. The Election Commission issued a notification on Thursday. With this, the nomination process has started. The last date for filing nomination is 21 August. The documents will be examined on 22 August. The last date for withdrawal of nomination is 25 August.
How is the Vice President election, who has the number force?
The Vice President is elected by members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Nominated members of Rajya Sabha can also vote. One seat is vacant in the 543 -member Lok Sabha. The 245 -member Rajya Sabha has five seats vacant. The effective number of both houses is 786. The candidate winning the election will require 394 votes. Provided that all eligible voters exercise their franchise.
The BJP -led NDA in the Lok Sabha has 293 out of 542 members. The Rajya Sabha currently has 240 members. The ruling coalition has the support of 129 members (if nominated members vote in support of NDA). In this way the ruling coalition has 422 members support. Election is done through secret voting.
Shiv Sena gave unconditional support to NDA
The NDA meeting also talked about coordination and training before voting. The election is through secret voting, for this the party whip cannot be issued. Due to this, it is being decided by the NDA that all its MPs are well aware of the voting process so that their votes are not illegal. On Wednesday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde announced unconditional support to the NDA in the Vice Presidential election.
