According to the information released by the Election Commission, candidates can file their nomination till 21 August 2025 for the election of the post of Vice President. After this, on August 22, it will be checked whether the nomination is filled correctly or not. If a candidate does not want to contest the election, he can withdraw his name by 25 August.

Jagdeep Dhankar resigns on 21 July

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from his post on 21 July citing health reasons. His term was till August 2027. But now according to the Indian Constitution, if the election of a Vice President is held in the middle of the tenure, then the newly elected Vice President gets a full five -year term.

According to the qualification fixed for the post of Vice President, it is necessary for the candidate to be a citizen of India. He should be at least 35 years of age and should be eligible to become a member of Rajya Sabha. Also, the candidate should not hold any government post.
