Vice President Election 2025: The coalition of opposition parties India has nominated former Supreme Court Judge Sudarshan Reddy for the Vice Presidential election. His competition NDA candidate C.P. The India block currently has around 300 MPs. These include Congress, DMK, Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar), CPI -M, RJD, JMM, AAP and IUML. Even after this, Sudarshan Reddy does not have the number of votes required to win.

The Vice Presidential election is in secret. Every MP has the right to vote for the candidate for his will. Can not force them for this. Whip is not issued. In such a situation, the opposition candidate can win only if the MPs of the ruling party vote in their favor or do not vote.
Who can vote in Vice Presidential elections?
The Vice President is elected by an electorate. It consists of members of both houses of Parliament (also nominated members). In the 2025 Vice Presidential elections, there will be 782 MPs in the electoral college leaving vacant seats. Of these, 543 MPs from Lok Sabha and 233 elected and 12 nominated MPs of Rajya Sabha will be. The opinion of each member has the same value.
How are the votes cast in the Vice President elections, how is counted?
The Vice Presidents hold secret voting for the election. They can cast a vote. MPs show their priorities among the candidates according to the order. The MP gives candidates in the order of preference (1, 2, 3, etc.). Like if an MP gets CP If Radhakrishnan has to vote, he will keep them on 1 in preference order. Similarly, if someone has to vote for Sudarshan Reddy, then he will put him on 1 in preference order.

To win, the candidate must get a majority quota (more than half of the total valid votes). If a candidate is not able to cross this limit in the first preference, then the lowest vote candidate is removed and his votes are transferred on the basis of next preference. It goes on until one candidate crosses this limit.
