Ernakulam: Veteran Malayalam actor, screenwriter, director, and producer Sreenivasan passed away on Saturday, at the age of 69. He was widely recognised for his contributions to Malayalam cinema as an actor, writer, and film-maker.
Sreenivasan, a legendary actor who has carved a unique identity in Malayalam cinema was also known as a ‘genius’ among actors, directors and among the cinema lovers in Kerala.
Sreenivasan has been in the Malayalam cinema industry for the past 48 years and has acted in nearly 300 movies.
Sreenivasan has acted as hero, villain, supporting actor alongside the superstars of Malayalam cinema from the late 70’s. Sreenivasan’s unique comedy delivery and wit is well known and has been widely accepted by generations as it has been satirical in nature and more into the contemporary politics and social issues.
His well known movies include ‘Sandesham’, ‘Vadakkunokkiya Yanthram’, ‘Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala’ and many more.
Sreenivasan – Mohanlal combo during the early 90’s were known as the golden age of Malayalam cinema where comedy cinema had a unique path that no one traversed till then.
“Its a huge loss to Malayalam cinema industry. I have done a number of movies with Sreenivasan. His sense of humor and comedy was something no one could have done. He was a complete actor”, said Director Kamal.
