Senior Artists Pension 2025: The Ministry of Culture has launched a financial assistance scheme for senior artists, under which artists, writers and scholars are given pension of up to Rs 6000 every month. Know who can apply under this scheme.
Ministry of Culture Artist Pension Scheme: Government Artist Pension Scheme is now known as Scheme for Financial Assistant for Veteran Artists (Financial Assistance Scheme for Senior Artists). The scheme has been launched by the Ministry of Cultural and its main objective is to improve the economic and social status of senior artists and scholars. Artists who have contributed significantly to art, literature or other fields at their active age, but are now feeling difficulty in living due to being an elderly, they can avail the scheme.
How much financial assistance will be given to senior artists under this scheme?
- In this scheme, financial assistance of 6,000 per month is given to eligible artists. This amount is shared between the Central and State Government, United States Administration.
- If a eligible artist dies, pension can be transferred to his spouse as per the decision of the central government.
- The contribution by the state government, joint administration should be at least Rs 500 per month.
- The central government’s contribution can be up to Rs 5,500.
- If the state government is already giving pension, the contribution of the Center will be adjusted according to the remaining amount.
Who can apply for Veteran Artists Scheme?
- Artists or scholars who contribute significantly to art, literature or cultural fields.
- Traditional scholars who do not have published works, but have contributed to their field.
- Applicant’s gross income should not exceed Rs 4,000 per month or Rs 48,000 per year.
- Age should be at least 60 years (not applicable in case of spouse).
- Artists who are not receiving financial assistance from other central or state government schemes.
How to apply for Veteran Artists Pension?
Applications can be made in both online and offline manner-
- To apply online, apply through the Culture Scheme Monitoring System (CSMS) by visiting the website of Ministry of Culture.
- Selection Process: On completion of all the information of the application, they will be placed before the expert committee. The committee will suggest name by looking at the qualification and economic status of the applicants. The final decision is made according to the recommendation of the Administrative Department Committee and the availability of funds. After getting approval, the pension is sent directly to the bank account.

Artist Pension Scheme required to apply
- Passport Size Color Photo
- Address certificate like Aadhaar, Passport, Voter ID etc.
- Birth date proof like Aadhaar, Passport, 10th Marksheet etc.
- Income Certificate (Annexure-II (A))
- Documents, awards, honors that prove art, literature or cultural contribution
- Bank authority letter
- Recommendation letter from state government, joint administration
If the pension has to be transferred to the spouse-
- Death certificate of deceased artist
- Digital Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan Portal)
- Spouse’s income and identity proof
- Affidavit that spouse is not taking advantage of other schemes
- Through this scheme, senior artists and scholars get an opportunity to live economic security and respectable life.
